Today, we launched a crowdfunding campaign via Indiegogo, a Kickstarter-like platform that caters to non-profit organizations. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to fund our 2013 summer camps and the next twelve months of expenses as we build a national non-profit organization.
You can check out our video, in which we talk about the App Camp program and our goals for the future. You'll see we have assembled an interesting geeky collection of perks for contributors, such as:
- iPhone wallpaper, designed by the App Campers
- the Clever Girl mixtape, curated by nerd favorite musical duo, The Doubleclicks
- iOS Programming: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide
- a specially-commissioned artwork, featuring Ada Lovelace (she wrote the first computer program in 1843)
We would love to have your support! The key to the success of a crowdfunding campaign is early momentum. The more donors we have (even if the donations are small), the more attention our campaign will get. And the best way to help is to spread the word.
We know that we are on the right track. Based on the incredible response we've gotten to our inaugural summer sessions, it's clear that there are lots of girls who want to learn more about making software. Our goal this summer is to refine the App Camp curriculum. Once summer is over, we'll focus on expanding the program and building an organization that can host App Camps all over the country.
