The App Camp for Girls Board of Directors is happy to announce Michelle Panulla and Aleen Simms will serve in the roles of Co-Executive Directors. In addition to their work as organizers of previous camps, the Board was impressed by their passion and motivation.
With the changes to App Camp over the years, the leadership of two people with awareness of App Camp’s strengths and opportunities for growth comes at a key time for the organization as we continue with our mission of inspiring and empowering girls, transgender, and gender nonconforming youth to pursue careers in technology.
The Board of Directors looks forward to their combined leadership and in supporting Michelle and Aleen as they begin to shape the organization in the coming months.
Michelle Panulla has worked for close to 20 years in Information Technology, focusing the last nine on WordPress development. Michelle served as a Project Team Manager for App Camp for Girls for three years before becoming Portland’s Co-Organizer in 2017. She holds a degree in Music Education, enjoys singing in a rock band, volunteering with youth and animals, and indulging in too much coffee on a regular basis.
Aleen Simms solidified her passion for inclusivity and diversity in tech when she created a podcast with the mission of pursuing equality in geekdom in 2014. The show led to her involvement with App Camp after interviewing co-founder Jean MacDonald. Aleen became an avid volunteer, including managing teams in Portland, organizing camps in Phoenix, and fundraising. She has a degree in technical communication, enjoys podcasting, reading, writing, and playing Splatoon.
